Let’s all just be honest for a second. As women, we want curves. We crave that 36/24/36 body type.

For me, the top 36 has never been a problem.

How It’s Made

The COBA Glute Trainer operates on the principle of counter-balance. Weighing only 12 pounds, it’s a very lightweight machine.

It uses your own weight as counterweight to the resistance bands. It’s all about balance.

If you’re working with your right foot on the bar of the COBA Glute Trainer, you’ll be pulling the resistance bands with your left arm, and vice versa.

It’s also built at a 7% incline, which forces you to put the majority of your weight on your heels. This causes you to work your glutes as opposed to your quads.

The board features a soft, rubberized top and rubberized feet. The feet help hold the COBA Glute Trainer in place and keep it from scratching up or damaging your floors.

The rubberized top makes it comfortable to use and takes a lot of pressure off your knees.

The three-pulley system is where the resistance bands are attached, and the COBA Glute Trainer comes with multiple bands for increasing and decreasing resistance as needed.

Levels of Resistance

The resistance levels on the COBA Glute Trainer can be changed quickly and easily mid-workout with a simple unsnapping of the old and snapping on of the new bands you want to use.

The COBA Glute Trainer comes with several different resistance bands ranging from ten to 50 pounds.

This allows the machine to “grow with you.”

As you get stronger, you can move up to higher bands.

Space Considerations

The small amount of space this piece of equipment takes up is one of the best things about it aside from its good results.

The 12-pound machine is easy to move and transport, and it’s so small that it can be shoved under a bed, inside a closet or even behind a door when not in use.

It doesn’t matter if you’re living in a single bedroom in someone else’s house; you can find room for this tiny piece of equipment.

What Exercises Can You Do on It?

According to the creator of the COBA Glute Trainer, Jim Duffy, the COBA Glute Trainer allows you to do all eight of what are considered to be the “best glute workouts.”

These include:

  • Lunges
  • Squats
  • Glute Bridges
  • Hip Thrusts
  • Deadlifts
  • Abductors
  • Donkey Kicks
  • Kickbacks

You aren’t strictly limited to working your glutes though.

The machine will also allow you to tone your abs, arms and other upper-body areas just as easily as you can tone your lower-body.

That’s the beauty of the machine’s versatility.

Disadvantages

During the several weeks I, myself, have been using the COBA Glute Trainer, I haven’t found a ton of disadvantages, but there were a few things I’ve noticed that fall into the “cons” category.

The machine gets a little loud and squeaky. At first, I was really upset by this because I assumed it was already tearing up on me.

I reached out to the company to find out what was going on, and it turns out that it’s a fairly common issue.

Apparently, dust gets in the area between the pulleys and the axle, and that can cause it to squeak, even though it isn’t actually hurting the machine or putting any additional wear on the axle.

They gave me some tips on how to fix the issue, and it worked fine, but it does get squeaky a little more often than I’d like.

The only other problem I had with the equipment is that I wasn’t sure I was using it quite right for the first week or so.

The videos on the app are great, but they don’t go into a ton of detail concerning correct posture and body placement, so I was kind of just winging it for the first few sessions.

I’ve been seeing results, though, so apparently I was doing something right.

It would still be nice to have a few more in-depth training sessions to follow in terms of correct body placement.

The BodyBoss 2.0 is comparable in price to the COBA Glute Trainer, and it’s equally lightweight and portable.

It’s even somewhat similar in construction, although it doesn’t have the incline, so there’s nothing there to keep you from working your quads rather than your glutes in some exercises.

It has a collapsible bar that allows you to do “dumbbell-like workouts” and you can even do some mild cardio exercises on the machine.

It’s pretty decent, but it only includes two resistance bands; the rest have to be purchased separately.

More commonly called “Booty Bands,” the INNSTAR Booty Resistance Band Glute Cord System is also lightweight, extremely portable and very reasonably priced.

There are tons of resistance options so that even experienced weightlifters can gain benefits from using them. It’s a very low-tech workout, but that doesn’t mean it isn’t effective.

It can be used indoors or outdoors, and the versatility of the bands is unmatched.

Depending on where on the door you hook them, you can also use them to tone your shoulders, arms, back and more. Each of the different bands must be purchased separately though.

Core Coaster Abdominal Trainer

 

 

Although the Core Coaster Abdominal Trainer are geared more towards ab workouts than glute workouts, they can be adjusted for use in toning the glutes.

They’re very reasonably priced and, like the INNSTAR system, very low-tech and easy to use. The problem is that these definitely aren’t for everyone.

They take some level of skill to use them without rolling out of them or falling off them. If you’re prone to accidents anyway, these might not be the best bet for you.

Still, if you’re looking for an inexpensive way to tone your glutes and abs, the coasters are a good place to start.

In Summary

Despite the price tag, I’m still a big fan of the COBA Glute Trainer. It’s just so convenient and easy to use.

The versatility allows me to get a complete at-home workout on my lower body and nearly a complete workout on my upper body.

I love that it’s small and easily stored, and I love that the 7% incline helps me remember to keep my weight on my heels where I can do the most good for my glutes.

Most of all, I love that for the first time in my life, I have actually been able to see some progress in my hips and legs.
