If you’re in the market for a flywheel rower, the Stroops SXR Rower should be at the top of your list. Compared to similar rowers on the market, it’s impressive.

It’s high-quality, durable, effective, adjustable, and versatile. Best of all, it’s portable, making it easy to store out of the way.

The Stroops SXR Rower has everything you could ask for in a rower. Keep reading to find out more.

Flywheel Rower Basics

I could go on and on about how great the Stroops SXR Rower is, but it won’t mean anything if you don’t know some basics about rowers.

Rowers are one of the best exercise machines you can use for a full body workout and to lose weight.

They target the upper body, lower body, and core muscles almost equally if you use proper form.

Quality and Build

Using a machine that wobbles or feels like it might break under your weight may cause you to “compensate” by adjusting your position.

This means you won’t be using proper form.

Proper form is extremely important when it comes to rowing, so you need to get a good machine that will support proper form.

That means you need a machine that is sturdy, has good weight to it, and is constructed extremely well.

I’ll be blunt – if you get a cheap machine, say in the $200 and under range, you’ll get what you pay for.

It can be tempting to save a few bucks, and it’s understandable if you have a small budget.

However, if you can afford it, go ahead, and invest in a high-quality machine. It will last longer, work better, and save you some headaches in the long run.

With that being said, once you get into the higher-end rowers, you don’t have to break the bank to get a decent one.

The more expensive ones tend to be a commercial quality machine. These are the best, but you don’t have to go commercial quality to get a great home rower.

Focus on a solid build, heavyweight materials, and if possible, a decent warranty. Everything else is optional.

Comfort and Ease of Use

When you’re using a rower, you’re going to be on it for a while. That means you should be comfortable.

Make sure the rower has a decent-sized seat because some manufacturers cut corners by using a small seat.

You’ll also want it to have good cushioning, so you don’t feel metal as you’re sitting.

The rower handle should be padded so you can have a comfortable and strong grip. You’ll also want to consider the height of the rower.

Rowers that are too low may be uncomfortable to get in and out of. There is no perfect height – it’s really a matter of personal preference.

However, I’d suggest a height of at least 16 inches.

Now that you’ve got some basics down, we can talk about the Stroops SXR Rower. It’s truly an amazing rower and you won’t be disappointed if you decide to add one to your home gym.

At the time of writing, there was a great deal available. Click here to see if it’s still running…

Features and Benefits of the Stroops SXR Rower

Quality and Build

Have you ever been on a shabby piece of equipment? Everything you touch or use feels like it’s one round away of falling apart.

You may hear the equipment creak under your weight or maybe some screws shift as you pull a handle.

It may be unnecessarily loud.

It’s the worst feeling to have about a machine you’ve just dropped a bunch of money on.

What makes the Stroops SXR Rower special is that you’ll never have to worry about that feeling.

Stroops has manufactured this machine with an unprecedented precision so that every part fits together perfectly.

It stands strong, solid, and ready to work. It’s sturdy and will stand up to the toughest work out you can throw at it.

The rower is made from a heavy-duty, powder-coated steel. It weighs 91 pounds and measures 96″L x 15″W x 36″H.

Comfort

The Stroops SXR Rower is amazingly comfortable because it has an ergonomic seat that contours to your body.

It has excellent padding and is a fair width so it can accommodate people of varying girths.

You may have laughed at that part, but a lot of fitness machines aren’t made for plus sized people, so it’s a gift when a manufacturer takes that into account.

The handles of the rower are padded with a non-slip cushion that protects your hands from fatigue.

The cushion is moisture-proof and fights against sweaty palms.

Another comfort feature is the height of the monorail. The rower stands three feet tall, but the monorail is set at 21 inches high.

This is a great height to get up and down from, especially for people who have joint problems or mobility issues.

Console

I’ll admit that the console on the Stroops SXR Rower isn’t the best I’ve seen, but it’s good enough to tell you what you need to know for your workout.

It’s not basic by any definition, but it’s not so extravagant that it jacks up the price of the rower (large and/or advanced consoles cost a lot).

While the console is small, it’s backlit and has good contrast so you can see the writing.

It provides you with all the pertinent information about your workout – row count, distance, calories burned, and more.

Stroops SXR Rower Alternatives

The Stroops SXR Rower is an excellent machine, but there is nothing wrong with considering alternatives.

Plus, this rower has a price tag of $900+ which isn’t in everyone’s budget.

The three alternatives below are excellent machines at a significantly lower price range.

I still think the Stroops SXR Rower is superior to these choices, but if you can’t spend that kind of money, these will do.

Stamina ATS Air Rower

The Stamina ATS Air Rower is a compact, lightweight rower compared to the Stroops SXR Rower. It’s great for people who may not have a lot of space or who can’t handle a heavy piece of equipment by themselves.

Despite the smaller size and lower price tag, this is still a really good rower.

One of the features I really like about this rower is the support leg in the middle of the rower. This helps to stabilize the machine as you’re rowing. The SRX doesn’t have this feature.

The console isn’t anything special. It has a small LCD screen that just gives you two stats at the time, but you can scan through the distance, time, and calories burned.

The speed is shown at all times. It may be a basic console, but it gives you what you need.

Like the Stroops SXR Rower, this one is easy to store. It folds and has wheels. The seat is padded very well and so are the handlebars. It also has adjustable foot plates.

The rower measures 77″L x 18″W wide x 22″H and weighs 52 pounds.

Stamina ATS Air Rower Stroops Rower
  • Dimensions: 77″L x 18″W x 22″H
  • Weight: 52 lbs.
  • Resistance Type: Flywheel/Air
  • Weight Capacity: 250 lbs.
  • Dimensions: 96″L x 15″W x 36″H
  • Weight: 91 lbs.
  • Resistance Type: Flywheel/Air
  • Weight Capacity: 500 lbs.

Merax Magnetic Rowing Machine

The Merax Magnetic Rowing Machine is another great choice that will save you some money. It’s more suited for smaller people because the seat is narrow.

However, it’s strong and sturdy and you’ll get more than your money’s worth out of it.

Like the previous rower, it has a middle stabilizing leg. The front and back legs are triangular which gives the entire machine added support.

Pair that with a quiet and efficient magnetic resistance system and you have a machine that is worthy of any home gym on any floor of any building.

Like the previous machines, it folds and has wheels for easy mobility and storage. The wheels on this rower are a bit smaller so you need to lean it at just the right angle to roll it.

The console is also nowhere near as nice as the previous two rowers. It really is as basic as you can get.

However, these two things are sacrifices you would make for the low cost of the machine. Luckily, neither of these sacrifices affect the quality of your workout.

Merax Rowing Machine Stroops Rower
  • Dimensions: 73″L x 16″W x 21″H
  • Weight: 264 lbs.
  • Resistance Type: Magnetic
  • Weight Capacity: 68 lbs.
  • Dimensions: 96″L x 15″W x 36″H
  • Weight: 91 lbs.
  • Resistance Type: Flywheel/Air
  • Weight Capacity: 500 lbs.

Sunny Health & Fitness Magnetic Rowing Machine

If you’re looking for a low profile rower, the Sunny Health & Fitness Magnetic Rowing Machine is a great choice. It’s not as tall as the others, but it’s a little longer than the Stamina ATS and a little shorter than the Stroops SXR Rower .

It folds and has wheels like the others, so storage is not a problem.

This rower makes the most of its length. It has an exceptionally long monorail so it’s an excellent choice for tall people.

It’s also a great choice for households where people of varying heights will be using it.

Like the others, the console isn’t great. However, it allows you to see what you need to see so this is a small sacrifice I can overlook for the price.

Perhaps you can also.

Sunny Rowing Machine Stroops Rower
  • Dimensions: 82″L x 19″W x 23″H
  • Weight: 59 lbs.
  • Resistance Type: Magnetic
  • Weight Capacity: 250 lbs.
  • Dimensions: 96″L x 15″W x 36″H
  • Weight: 91 lbs.
  • Resistance Type: Flywheel/Air
  • Weight Capacity: 500 lbs.

Final Thoughts on the Stroops SXR Rower

All the rowing machines I’ve mentioned are great choices and the alternatives can keep your wallet intact.

However, they Stroops SXR Rower is clearly the best choice out of all of them. It’s built with better materials and is much sturdier and more durable than the others.

That’s why the price is higher, and it’s worth every dollar.

I always say if you buy something, but it once.

Investing in the this rower is a lifetime investment you won’t regret.
