If you’re working out at home a lot, cardio is a great way to burn calories and stay in shape.

That’s why treadmills are one of the most popular exercise machines for home gyms.

I came across the XTERRA Fitness TRX4500 Treadmill and I was thoroughly impressed at what it has to offer.

Here is what I found out about this amazing treadmill.

Things to Know Before Buying a Treadmill

It helps to know what’s important about a treadmill before spending your money on one.

This helps to ensure you get exactly what you want and need.

Treadmills vary so much, especially when it comes to technology and features so a little research goes a long way.

Size

Keep in mind that you need to have enough clearance space around the treadmill for safe operation.

People get injured more than you think due to not having enough space around the treadmill in case of a fall.

Your treadmill can’t be placed against a wall on any side.

Gyms are required to give at least a four-foot clearance behind the treadmill. This is a good rule of thumb to follow, and if you could do five or six feet, that would be even better.

With that being said, you must look at the assembled dimensions of the treadmill and add the clearance space to that measurement.

There is no point in buying a treadmill if it won’t fit in your space.

If your space is small, you could consider buying a folding treadmill. They tend to be smaller and when you’re done you can fold and store them out of the way.

Weight Capacity

If you’re a lighter weighted person, say 175 pounds or less, the weight capacity of the treadmill may not be a big concern for you.

However, if you’re a heavier person or someone who is on the heavier side is going to be using it, you need to pay attention to the weight limit of the treadmill.

Exceeding the weight limit of a treadmill ensures one thing – that it’s going to break.

Surely you don’t want that to happen after you’ve spent a few hundred dollars or more on it.

Programs and Inclines

Maybe you’re the type of person that gets on the treadmill, press start, and go.

That’s okay.

For everyone else, treadmills have programs and incline settings to help you achieve the perfect workout.

Some treadmills may only have a few programs while others can have too many to count.

It’s really a matter of personal preference because the number of programs won’t affect the quality of your work out.

However, just make sure the treadmill you select has the level of variety you like.

The incline does affect the quality of your workout.

Some treadmills will have manual-set inclines.

In these cases, the treadmill usually has just a few levels of incline.

Automatic incline treadmills can have many different levels. Again, just make sure you get what you really want.

Now I can get into what makes the XTERRA Fitness TRX4500 Treadmill a perfect treadmill for a home gym.

To start, XTERRA is a company that manufactures excellent home gym equipment.

They offer top-quality products and the XTERRA Fitness TRX4500 Treadmill is no exception.

It’s compact, but still big enough for a decent workout and it has plenty of modern features to make things interesting.

Here are a few pros and cons for you to consider about the XTERRA Fitness TRX4500.

Features and Benefits of the XTERRA Fitness TRX4500 Treadmill

Premium Construction

It’s good to know that a product you buy is durable.

The frame of the XTERRA Fitness TRX4500 Treadmill is made with top-quality, heavy-duty steel combined with Aluminum side frames for the running surface which is why it has such a high weight capacity.

The frame and motor both come with lifetime warranties, so this is one investment that is literally designed to last you a lifetime.

The frame has a built-in technology called Lift Assist.

This is important since the treadmill is so heavy.

Lift Assist is a hydraulic-like technology that helps to lift the treadmill when you fold it. You give it a little push and the technology handles the rest.

The treadmill also has Safe Drop Assist which works like Lift Assist but in the opposite direction.

Other notable construction features include the belt which is 2-ply and made from Duraweave and the XTRA Soft Shock Absorption Deck which helps to cushion the impact to your joints.

Console

XTERRA Fitness TRX4500 Treadmill 3

The console, the control center of the XTERRA Fitness TRX4500 Treadmill, is very impressive.

It features a large, 7.5″ LCD display that has a bright blue back light with white words so it’s easy to read.

There are easy access controls for the incline to the left of the display and for the speed on the right of the display.

The console features two large speakers as well as an audio input jack so you can listen to your favorite music.

It’s also Bluetooth capable – you can connect to your tablets or other smart devices for use with the Zwift App.

The console also has a cooling fan, two cup holders, and other buttons that make it easy to use the treadmill.

Controls, Speed, Inclines, and Programs

XTERRA Fitness TRX4500 Treadmill 5

If you like being in control, the XTERRA Fitness TRX4500 Treadmill is an excellent choice for you.

This is because it offers you three different ways to control your speed and incline.

I mentioned the side controls on the console.

They are interesting because there are fifteen buttons numbered from one to 15 (there are 15 levels for each one) for both the incline and the speed.

This means you can just press the level you want instead of having to repeatedly press an up or down arrow.

If you like the arrows, you have that choice right up under the console. There is an up and down arrow for both the incline and the speed.

You’ll also find the start/stop button, the program and enter buttons, the fan button, and the emergency stop button.

The program button allows you to cycle through 30 different programs.

Simply press the enter button when you get to the one you want. The best part about them is that they’re all so simple and straightforward to use.

If that’s not enough control for you, the treadmill’s speed can also be controlled from buttons located on the right handlebar.

Other Mentionable Features

XTERRA Fitness TRX4500 Treadmill 1

The XTERRA Fitness TRX4500 Treadmill has a strong, magnetic 3.25 HP motor that is ultra-quiet and provides a smooth operation.

The treadmill can go as fast as 12 mph which is higher than your typical home treadmill.

You’ll also get access to the Zwift app which turns your treadmill session into a fun game, so you’ll be motivated to get through your workout.

Review #1 – James

One Solid Machine

“This is one solid machine! The programs work great. I am a long-time runner (about 10 miles per week) and this equipment just holds up. Great price for what you get. No regrets.”

Review #2 – Reginald

Great Machine, Great Price

“I was thinking of buying the Xterra 3500 to get a good treadmill and to get a cheaper price, but they were sold out. I’m glad they were because it was $100 more but the 4500 is a totally better machine and definitely worth the money. I’m a big man and the main concern for me was finding a machine durable and sturdy enough to support my weight and size. I would recommend this machine to anyone, don’t get caught up in popular name brands and pay more than you need to great machine great price.”

Review #3 – Sandman90

Xterra TRX 4500

SereneLife SLFTRD18 Folding Treadmill

I’ll admit that the XTERRA Fitness TRX4500 Treadmill is a beast – it’s big and heavy. If you are looking for something more compact and easier to handle, the SereneLife Folding Treadmill is an excellent choice.

Remember that compact treadmills like this don’t hold as much weight so it’s not a good choice for heavier people.

The compact size may not be suitable for people that are six feet tall or taller.

However, it’s Bluetooth capable and has all the basics you need for a decent workout. It’s a great choice for the non-athlete who’s just starting out.
